My Grandma used to tell me the windows are the jewels of your home, so always make them sparkle. Don’t just clean the glass, clean the tracks and frames as well.
Window tracks are often overlooked when preparing your home for sale. Buyers do pull back the curtains and pull up the shades and if the window tracks are dirty they will leave the buyers with a bad impression.
Buyers like open, light, bright and airy spaces, clean windows help let in more natural light. The Kiplinger Report states ” home buyers hate dark unwelcoming homes“. Great views add value to your home and clean windows will keep the focus on the view and not on accumulated dirt, dust and water spots. Clean windows help to facilitate fantastic first impressions and we all know you only get one shot to make a good first impression when it comes time to sell your home.
To clean window tracks when it comes time to sell your home:
Baking Soda (sprinkled over dirty tracks)
Mixture of water, dish soap and vinegar sprayed over the baking soda
Toothbrush for scrubbing the window tracks
Toothpick for the hard to reach spots
Wet rag for wiping up the gunk
Paper towels to finish the process.
Clean windows and tracks will give the impression that the windows are in good condition and will not give concern to buyers that windows need replacement.
If budget is not an issue and you have broken windows and screens, replace them. If budget is an issue, adjust your listing price accordingly or the buyers may pass on your home altogether or negotiate the price down further then the cost to replace windows.
